- See high-profile building projects: Driving around Manama it was impossible to miss!
- Walk on land reclaimed from the sea: Went to a few including a new suburb of Manama.
- See the Bahrain National Museum: Excellent and very well-funded museum. Surprisingly, it was Rachel's first time going to a museum ever in her life. She picked a good one to start!
- Look at agate beads at the Bahrain National Museum.
- Find carnelian beads at the Bahrain National Museum.
- Check out earthenware burial jars at the Bahrain National Museum.
- See the postmodern architecture at the Bahrain National Museum.
- Go to see Bahrain Fort at night: Cool exhibits, but don't go too late! We got locked inside!
- Go to al-Fatih Mosque.
- Appreciate the interior design of al-Fatih Mosque.
- Appreciate the marble, glass and wood at al-Fatih Mosque.
- Learn about Islam at the al-Fatih Mosque.
- Eat Khabees (dates in various states of ripeness).
- Eat Makbus.
- Eat Rangena.
Personal Goals
- See an art exhibit at Bahrain National Theater: Some beautiful artwork that we stumbled across.
- Find a pearl.
- Go to Bait al-Qur'an (Quran Museum): Sad we couldn't take pictures, but it was still really cool.
- Go see Arad Fort: Had a pleasant wander around.
- Go see the Tree of Life.
- Visit Bab al-Bahrain and the Manama Souq: Super chaotic, but fun and we had a pomegranate shaved ice desert.
- See the corniche: It was nice enough. Not really highlight, but not bad.
- Go to Shaikh Isa bin Ali House: Beautiful architecture.
- Stand in the center of the causeway: Someday I will get to the other side...
- Go to al-Dar Island: Next time will will find a pearl!
- Go to a club for expats: Went to lots of them...eh. Probably alright, but I am not into clubbing.
- Go to a club for locals: This was much more interesting. This might have been mostly Saudis there for the weekend, but Rachel and I were the only females there that weren't prostitutes. The other girls (and a few lady-boys) were Thai prostitutes. It was a seedy place, but interesting to observe. Far more so than the expat clubs.
